Types and Applications of Handheld Portable Hardness Testers

    Introduction to Handheld Hardness Testers 


    Handheld hardness testers are a category of hardness testing instruments. The characteristic of this instrument is its small size, light weight, and suitability for real-time hardness testing of workpieces at any inspection site. Compared to large desktop machines, it is more convenient to use. There are many types of handheld hardness testers, the most well-known being the Leeb hardness tester. However, the accuracy of a general Leeb hardness tester is not high and sometimes cannot meet customer requirements.

    Therefore, TX has developed and produced handheld hardness testers, including handheld Rockwell hardness testers, handheld Brinell hardness testers, and handheld Brinell-Rockwell combined functionality hardness testers. The handheld hardness testers produced by TX have the same measurement accuracy as corresponding desktop machines, meeting ASTM and ISO requirements. This not only fulfills the customer's need for on-site testing but also ensures measurement accuracy. 


    In addition to the above handheld Brinell and handheld Rockwell hardness testers, other types of hardness testing instruments produced by TX are also handheld, such as Webster hardness testers, Barcol hardness testers, etc. On the basis of various traditional handheld hardness tester products being recognized and used by numerous domestic and overseas customers, TX has been committed to researching and producing new types of handheld hardness testers. Currently, their magnetic series products have applied for patents in various countries. From the first generation of mechanical pointer type to the second generation of digital display type and now to the third generation of automatic type, TX has never stopped on the road of developing and producing handheld hardness testers.


    Handheld Rockwell Hardness Tester


    The handheld Rockwell hardness tester is a widely used type among handheld hardness testers. It can test various standard parts, hardware parts, and other small testing surfaces. Of course, with different anvils, it can test various shaped parts and small parts that cannot be tested by desktop hardness testers. It can also be used to quickly and accurately test the hardness of large, assembled, uncuttable, and immovable steel parts on the production site. The handheld Rockwell hardness testers produced by TX include small support base type, which is flexible in application, can be placed on a desk for use or carried out, and operates as simply as a micrometer, especially suitable for measuring small parts. 


    Another series of handheld Rockwell hardness testers are the clamping type. As long as the part can be clamped and the tested surface is perpendicular to the indenter, it can be tested. Compared with the small handheld Rockwell hardness tester, the clamping type Rockwell hardness tester has better stability, better repeatability, and higher accuracy. If the size and testing position of the workpiece allow, the clamping type handheld Rockwell hardness tester should be preferred. Another currently very popular type is the magnetic Rockwell handheld hardness tester, which uses a magnetic disc to attach the hardness tester to the surface of steel parts. As long as there is a suitable testing surface, parts of any shape and size can be tested. Many industry customers use it to test steel plates, steel pipes, shafts, molds, medium and large heat-treated parts, as well as weld seam hardness on boilers, pressure vessels, and pressure pipelines.
